‘A’ job or ‘The’ job

A couple of months ago on my birthday, a friend called up to wish me. He asked about my whereabouts and what I am upto. I told him about my struggle with the job-search and how madly I am looking for the profile that I am interested in. He suggested me to forget about interest and sit for government exam, saying- “go for secured jobs, interest hardly matters…it fades away with time, one hardly gets job of his/her interest”. I just simply replied to him- “I am ready to earn less and be insecure but I am not going to take up any job out of interest”. After all it’s going to be my part of my life that will engage a crucial amount of my lifetime. It will represent me and will be part of my identity. So much of investments in my academics and of my time is for that very job, how I can let it go for another that I am hardly interested in.

Job is not something that you take up and leave it after a while. Some people do because they have other plans in their life. But for the people like us who are really passionate about their career choices, for them each and every job matters. ‘The’ job matters not ‘a’ job. One can go along with ‘a’ job but not for long. It is ‘the’ job that takes you long and becomes your identity. The profile, the job title, the organization – everything matters. And above all, one’s interest matters. If the job is not of choice then, one can’t give their cent per cent and the productivity level of that individual as well as the organization, he/she works in, diminishes. It’s very important to find the job that one loves, no matter how much time it takes to find the right one. It is the part of the struggle. Don’t give up!

If one gives up in the mid-way, there is no point of investing so much time and labor finding it till then. Maybe initially one is clueless about their career but it doesn’t matter. It takes time to figure it out but once one does, without giving a second thought just switch to it and everything will eventually take place. One has to stick to achieve it no matter whatever situation crops up. There can be a time when one wants to give up. Don’t! After a lot of struggle and hard work, success finds it ways. One spends most of his life-time working than spending his time with his family or on any personal stuff, so how one can compromise with the kind of job.
